Markieff Morris is off to a good start this year for the Phoenix Suns

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Rookie Reports, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 12 January 2012 at 2:56 pm

22-year old forward Markieff Morris is off to a good start as a rookie for the Suns so far this year. He has played in 9 games (0 starts) for the Suns so far this year and he is averaging 21.6 minutes, 8.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. Morris is also shooting 12 of 22 (54.5%) from three point range so far this year, which is very, very impressive for a player his size. Morris will likely see his P.T. spike if he continues to play like he is right now.

The Phoenix Suns didn’t trust the rookies too much in 2010-11

The Phoenix Suns didn’t give the rookies much of a chance to show what they could do in 2010-11. 26-year old point guard Zabian Dowdell played in 24 games (0 starts) for the Suns last year and he averaged 12.2 minutes, 5.0 points, 0.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He looks like a keeper. 22-year old power forward Gani Lawal only played in 1 game (0 starts) for the Suns last year and he played 2 scoreless minutes while committing one foul. He missed pretty much the whole season due to a knee injury. 24-year old center Garret Siler didn’t get on the floor much. He played in 21 games (0 starts) for the Suns last year and he averaged 4.8 minutes, 2.1 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game. Siler did shoot 54.8% from the floor, so he did help out in his limited time on the court.

The Phoenix Suns have no time to play their rookies

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Rookie Reports, Front Page by alleyoop on Sunday 6 March 2011 at 2:59 pm

The Suns are a veteran team with their eyes on making the playoffs. With that in mind, they don’t have any P.T. for their rookies. 26-year old point guard Zabian Dowdell has played in 12 games (0 starts) for the Suns so far this year and he is averaging 11.0 minutes, 3.9 points, 1.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Dowdell got pushed further down the depth chart when the Suns traded for Aaron Brooks last week. 24-year old center Garret Siler has been doing a lot of sitting and watching so far this year. Siler has played in 11 games (0 starts) for the Suns so far this year and he is averaging 4.6 minutes, 1.7 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game. 22-year old power forward Gani Lawal only made it through 1 game in which he played 2 scoreless minutes before he was lost for the season.

No time for rookies on the Phoenix Suns

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Rookie Reports, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 21 January 2011 at 7:27 pm

The Suns are a veteran team that doesn’t like to give their rookies any P.T. and I don’t see that changing any time soon. 24-year old center Garrett Siler has gotten the most P.T. of the rookies for the Suns so far this year. Siler has played in 7 games (0 starts) for the Suns so far this year and he is averaging 5.9 minutes, 1.4 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. He has been logging a lot of time in the D-League so far this year. 26-year old undrafted rookie point guard Zabian Dowdell has played in 2 games (0 starts) for the Suns this year and he is averaging 6.5 minutes, 2.0 points, 0.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steal per game. Dowdell is blocked by Steve Nash & Goran Dragic on the depth chart so don’t look for him seeing increased P.T. any time soon. 22-year old forward Gani Lawal is out for the rest of the season due to injury. He got into 1 game (0 starts) for the Suns this season and he played 2 scoreless minutes in which he didn’t do anything else to dot the scorebook.

The Phoenix Suns lose Gani Lawal for the year

Blogged under Bloglockers, General, Big Suns News, Rookie Reports, Injuries, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 6 January 2011 at 10:13 pm

The Suns have lost 22-year old rookie forward Gani Lawal for the rest of the season due to a torn ACL and a partially torn ACL in his left knee. Lawal only played in 1 game (0 starts) for the Suns in which he played 2 scoreless minutes without getting any rebounds, assists, steals or blocked shots. Lawal was a 2nd round pick out of Georgia Tech last June.
