Phoenix Suns are shooting the ball great this year

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Big Suns News, Steppin Up by Andrew on Wednesday 18 November 2009 at 9:21 pm

The Phoenix Suns have been known for their Steve Nash led offense for a while now, but this year they have stepped it up a notch.  Not only is Nash shooting the ball extremely well from the field and from three, but the whole team seems to be following suit.  They are shooting 49% from the field as a team and an outstanding 43.8% from three as a team.  They have seven players shooting 39% or better from behind the arc, and five of them are shooting 44% or better from there.  These are very impressive numbers but it is very early in the season still, so don’t expect this all year.  I still expect the strong shooting to continue all season, just not at this rate.  Most of this is due to Nash finding wide open shots for his teammates by either leading the Suns on fastbreaks or driving deep into the defense and kicking it out.  Nash is shooting a great percentage himself, 50.7% from the field and 44.7% from three.  This is a very fun team to watch and they really know how to put points on the board with an average of 110.4 points per game.

Phoenix Suns 111, Houston Rockets 105

The Suns shot 51.9% from the floor last night and they outscored the Rockets 33-23 in the 4th quarter to pull away. Amare Stoudemire led the way for the Suns last night with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Jason Richardson pitched in with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. Steve Nash only shot 2 of 10 from the floor last night but he still finished up with 12 points, 3 rebounds and 16 assists. The Suns are now 10-2 on the year.

The Phoenix Suns have not had much playing time for their rookies yet

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Rookie Reports, Front Page by alleyoop on Monday 16 November 2009 at 5:07 pm

The Suns are playing at such a high level right now that they don’t have much playing time available for their rookies. 21-year old PF/C Earl Clark has played in 9 games (0 starts) for the Suns this season and he is averaging 10.9 minutes, 3.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. Clark has shown glimpses of the potential already this season that was why the Suns made him a first round pick. 23-year old forward Taylor Griffin has only played in 1 game (off the bench) for the Suns this year and he scored 2 points and he grabbed 1 rebound.

Phoenix Suns 101, Toronto Raptors 100

The Suns outrebounded the Raptors 46-39 and it really helped them win last night. Amare Stoudemire led the way for the Suns in this game with 30 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists. Steve Nash did a great job again of running the offense with 23 points, 4 rebounds and 9 assists. Channing Frye had another solid game for the Suns last night with 20 points and 7 rebounds. The Suns are now 9-2 on the year.

Los Angeles Lakers 121, Phoenix Suns 102

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Game recaps, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 13 November 2009 at 4:10 pm

The Suns didn’t play any defense last night as the Lakers shot 57.6% from the floor and they didn’t shoot too well themselves hitting only 36.5% from the floor. That was a recipe for disaster last night in L.A. Jared Dudley led the way for the Suns last night with 14 points and 6 rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench. Steve Nash only got to play 24 minutes last night because of the beat down and he scored 13 points and he dished out 5 assists. Louis Amundson (10 points and 9 rebounds in 14 minutes) and Earl Clark (10 points and 8 rebounds in 22 minutes) both showed good potential for the future last night. The Suns are now 8-2 on the season.
