The Suns ran the Warriors right out of the building earlier tonight. The Suns shot 53.6% from the floor and 54.5% from three point range in this game! They also outrebounded the Warriors 47-38 in this game which was also a factor with how the Suns won so easy in this game. Leandro Barbosa led the way for the Suns in this game with 24 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Channing Frye had a awesome game for the Suns tonight with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Frye nailed 6 of 7 shots from three point range in this game! Amare Stoudemire was solid pitching in with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Grant Hill was busy in this game as he finished up with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Steve Nash was a master tonight as he scored 18 points, snatched 6 rebounds and he dished out 20 assists. The Suns are now 2-0 on the season.

This was a very exciting season opener for the Suns earlier tonight. Steve Nash led the way for the Suns with 24 points and 8 assists. Nash also hit the game winning shot with under 6 seconds left in the game. Grant Hill turned back the clock against the Clippers as he finished up with 19 points, 13 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Leandro Barbosa got the start at shooting guard with Jason Richardson serving a suspension and he was solid with 17 points and 2 assists. The over/under for Phoenix Suns wins in 2009-2010 is 42.5

This might be the season that Steve Nash and Grant Hill start acting their age. The Suns can’t afford to have that happen as they are not nearly as deep as they have been in past seasons. Without Shaq in the middle I see the Suns getting back to running up and down the court as they will likely be one of the higher scoring teams in the league. The problem is that the Suns don’t have much defense meaning that they will give up as many points or more than they score. With some improved teams in the Western Conference I just have a hard time seeing them winning over half of their games this season. Take the under.

The Phoenix Suns claim Jarron Collins off waivers

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Suns News, Front Page by alleyoop on Monday 26 October 2009 at 7:40 pm

The Suns have claimed 30-year old center Jarron Collins off waivers from the Portland Trailblazers. Collins played in 26 games (3 starts) for the Jazz last season and he averaged 7.7 minutes, 1.5 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. He has now played in 480 games (206 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 16.9 minutes, 4.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. This was a good move for the Suns who desperately needed a back up center with Robin Lopez injured. Look for Collins to provide defense and rebounding behind Channing Frye until Lopez is ready to return.

Alvin Gentry is starting his first season as the head coach of the Phoenix Suns

Alvin Gentry was inserted as the interim coach last season and he earned the full time gig by going 18-13 (58.1%) the rest of the season. Gentry likes the run and gun style which plays to the strength of the roster the Suns have. Gentry still has a lot to prove as he has a career regular season record of 195-239 (44.9%) and he is 2-3 (40%) in the post season. The Western Conference in the NBA is tough but the Suns will expect Gentry to get them back to the playoffs this year.
