The Suns select D.J. Strawberry in the 2nd round

D.J. Strawberry’s main claim until now is that he’s Darryl Strawberry’s son, but he will try to change that with the Suns.  Strawberry is a tall (6′5″, 201 pound) shooting guard and he likes to play offense so he should fit right in on the Suns.  He played in 111 games at Maryland and he averaged 10.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.8 steals per game.  He shot 46.1% from the floor, 33% from three point range and 64% from the free throw line.

The Phoenix Suns select forward Alando Tucker in the 1st round

Blogged under The Draft Report, Bloglockers, Big Suns News, Front Page by alleyoop on Saturday 30 June 2007 at 7:46 am

How in the world did the Suns get lucky enough to pick Tucker with the 29th pick?  He was one of the best players in the country last season at Wisconsin and he should fit right in on the Suns.  He’s a great athlete and he’s a scorer.  Tucker has nice size at 6′6″,205 pounds and he has a nice array of moves on the court.  Tucker played in 134 games at Wisconsin and he averaged 16.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 0.8 steals per game.  Tucker also gets to the rim and that explains his 48% shooting from the floor, but he only hit 30.7% from three point range and 63.6% from the free throw line.  Look for Tucker to be a backup as a rookie but he could work his way into the starting lineup in the future.

The Phoenix Suns could be making a big move or two tonight

It will be interesting to see if the Suns make a big move and actually try to acquire a Kevin Garnett.  Amare Stoudemire and Shan Marion appear to be the big trading chips that the Suns might be willing to move to make room for KG.  I think Garnett would better equip the Suns to deal with the Spurs because Garnett can man up on Duncan which neither Stoudemire or Marion can do.  The Suns are also awaiting a decision by Kurt Thomas on whether or not he will pick up his player option and return to the Suns.  He’s a physical defender and rebounder that’s important because the Suns don’t have many players on their roster with that skill set.  The Suns have the #24, #29 and #59 picks and they will try to draft athletes that can run and fit in their system.
