Suns fall in OT to Spurs 111-106

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Thursday 9 November 2006 at 10:05 am

Raja Bell missed a free-throw with 1.5 seconds left that sent this game into overtime, where the Spurs took control of the game and finished the Suns off.  Steve Nash has his usual solid game with 20 points & 11 assists.  Raja Bell had a decent game despite missing the game-winning free toss, scoring 20 points & grabbing 4 rebounds.  Leandro Barbosa had a solid all-around game with 16 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists.  Amare Stoudamire made his first start of the season and played well with 16 points & 6 rebounds.  Kurt Thomas continued his fine play this season with 13 points & 8 rebounds.  Shawn Marion only scored 8 points, but he snatched 16 rebounds and dished out 4 assists.

The Suns had alot of chances to win this game, but couldn’t do it.  One thing that jumps off of the boxscore, is the fact that the Suns were only 4 of 6 from the free-throw line…and that is uneblievable!  The fact that the Suns were out-scored by 18 points at the line proves that they are a little soft, just like everyone likes to say about them.  The Suns are now digging themselves a hole as their record now stands at 1-4!

Power Forwards

Boris Diaw looks like he’ll get most of the minutes at power forward this season for the Suns.  The Hawks were so disappointed in Diaw that they threw him in trade for Joe Johnson without thinking twice about it.  Diaw really blossomed in the Suns fast-paced offensive style, often playing center.  Diaw had the best season of his career last season averaging 13.3 points, 6.9 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game.  Diaw should create alot of mis-matches in the open court as he is a decent rebounder and a great passer for a player of his size.  Diaw has career averages of 7.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game over his career.

Sean Marks looks like he’ll get some time here too.  Marks hasn’t done much in the NBA to date, averaging 3.1 points & 2.0 rebounds per game for his career.

Look for Amare Stoudamire to log some minutes here too.

Suns fall to 1-3 after losing 114-108 to Clippers

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Sunday 5 November 2006 at 11:15 am

The Suns are having a hard time because they’re having big rebounding problems, and they were out-rebounded again on Saturday 54-41 by the Clippers.  The offense has been clicking and is was again last night.  Steve Nash had a great game with 28 points & 13 assists.  Shawn Marion also had a great game with 25 points & 15 rebounds.  Center Kurt Thomas did his part with 15 points & 12 rebounds.  Leandro Barbosa (13 points) and Boris Diaw (12 points) added to the offense.

This is a disappointing start for the Suns, who have title aspirations.

Suns fall to Jazz 108-104

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Saturday 4 November 2006 at 12:12 pm

The Suns were up 83-77 at the start of the 4th quarter, but they got dominated in the 4th quarter 31-21 by the Jazz and lost the game!  Leandro Barbosa had a good game scoring 22 points, grabbing 6 rebounds and dishing out 6 assists.  Shawn Marion filled up the boxscore like he always does, scoring 19 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, stealing the ball twice and blocking 3 shots.  Steve Nash had a solid game scoring 17 points and dishing out 10 assists.  Raja Bell chipped in with 17 points, while center Kurt Thomas added 11 points and 8 rebounds.

The Suns are having trouble rebounding the ball and it’s hurting the team.

Suns sign veteran Jalen Rose

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Saturday 4 November 2006 at 1:09 am

The Suns signed Jalen Rose to a one-year contract today.  Rose fits in well with the Suns, because he’s a good transition player on offense that can shoot 3-pointers.  For his career, Rose has averaged 14.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 0.8 blocks per game.
